Why Ranexa Medication is Prescribed?

Ranexa (Ranolazine), alone or together with other medicines, is used to treat chronic angina. However, it is not exactly known how this medicine works in the treatment.

How Should Ranexa be Used?

Take these extended-release tablets two times a daily by mouth with or without food. Take this medicine at the same time every day to form a schedule. This medicine must be consumed whole without breaking or chewing or crushing it. Note that this medicine should not be taken to treat a sudden attack of angina, in this case contact your doctor.

What Should I do if I Forget a Dose?

If the time for your next dose is close, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular one. Never take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

What Side Effects can Ranexa Cause?

Side-effects of taking this medicine (Ranolazine) include headache, dizziness, constipation, nausea, fainting, irregular heartbeat and difficulty in breathing.


  • You must talk to your doctor in case you have allergies to any medicines or you are on any antifungal medication. Also tell you doctor if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medication or nutritional products.

  • If you have or have had a liver disease; or if you or any family member have or ever had a prolonged QT interval or irregular heartbeat, inform your doctor. Also inform you doctor in case you are pregnant or breastfeeding or are planning to get pregnant.
