Active Ingredient: The active ingredient present in Vibramycin is Doxycycline Monohydrate.

Drug Information: Vibramycin is the trade name for medication, Doxycycline Monohydrate. It is an antibiotic used to treat varied conditions including chlamydia. It can also be used for treating acne, chest infections, and also for preventing malaria.

How does Vibramycin work?

Doxycycline belongs to a class of drugs named as tetracycline antibiotics. This medication works by interfering with the bacteria’s capacity to form proteins, which are required for its survival. These proteins are fundamental for bacteria to multiply and grow, and here Doxycycline acts to prevent production of these proteins by bacteria resulting in the death of bacteria.

Directions for use:

Vibramycin is available in the form of capsules. It must be taken two times a day for 7 days. You must consume the medication with glassful of water. It is must to avoid the intake of any indigestion remedies for 2 hours prior to or subsequent to the intake of Doxycycline, as they can decrease the efficacy of Doxycycline. Also it is suggested not to use any supplements that comprise of iron, calcium, zinc, magnesium or aluminium, as they also have a negative impact on the effectiveness of Doxycycline. It is vital to remember to take your drug on a regular basis and one must finish off the course to make sure it works in a proper manner.

In case of missed dose:

  • Drugs for ingestion

Precautions:

Doxycycline is not safe for the following groups of patients:

  • Pregnant or lactating female
  • You are hypersensitive to any of the other constituents in doxycycline
  • You are expected to be exposed to high UV rays including intense sunlight or sun beds
  • You have liver or kidney diseases
  • You have taken doxycycline or other antibiotics falling under the same class in the past and experienced an allergic reaction
  • Any of the following conditions: Myasthenia gravis, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, porphyria, or experiencing any stomach troubles which result in diarrhoea.
