What is Rapamune (Sirolimus)?

A prescription drug called Rapamune is used to treat the symptoms of Lymphangioleiomyomatosis and Prophylaxis of Renal Transplant Rejection. Rapamune may be used alone or in combination with other drugs. Rapamune is a member of the immunosuppressant drug category.

When a kidney transplant recipient is 13 years of age or older, the anti-rejection medication Rapamune is used to avoid organ rejection. Rejection occurs when the new organ is attacked by the immune system of your body because it perceives it as a "foreign" threat. Rapamune is used with corticosteroids and other medications containing cyclosporine to avoid organ rejection by the body.
