Why Prograf Medication is Prescribed?

Tacrolimus (Prograf) is used in treating people who have undergone an organ transplant for heart, kidney or liver. Tacrolimus, along with other medicines, helps in securing the organ receiver’s immune system from risks. The medicine avoids any sudden attack from the transplanted organ and lowers activity levels of the patient’s immune system.

How Should Prograf be Used?

Take Tacrolimus (Prograf) capsule orally twice a day with a gap of twelve hours. Schedule your dose on the same time to avoid missing a dose. Refrain from altering your dosage without consulting the doctor.

What Should I do if I Forget a Dose?

A missed dose of Tacrolimus (Prograf) should be taken as soon as your recall. However, forgot to take the dose for a long time and it is already time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

What Side Effects can Prograf Cause?

Common side effects of taking Tacrolimus (Prograf) includes, diarrhea, nausea, headache, dizziness, weight gain, pain in hands or feet and vomiting. Immediately call your doctor in case you experience severe sid effects such as strange bleeding, seizures, low urination, periodic loss of consciousness or troublesome urination with pain or burning sensation.
