Why Crestor Medication is Prescribed?

Rosuvastatin (Crestor), in combination of a good diet, weight-loss and exercise, is used to decrease the risk of heart attack and stroke. It is also used to reduce the chance of heart surgery in people with heart disease or at risk of developing heart disease. This medicine is also prescribed to decrease the amount of bad cholesterol (LDL) and increase the amount of good cholesterol (HDL). It can also be used to reduce the amount of cholesterol and other fatty substances in the blood in children between 10 – 17 years of age suffering from familial heterozygous hypercholesterolemia.

How Should Crestor be Used?

Take this medicine orally as directed by your doctor once or twice a day. Initially the dosage could be small but the doctor may increase its dosage after two to four weeks.

What Should I do if I Forget a Dose?

If you failed to remember a dose, immediately take it when you recall. But do not take a missed dose if it is time for your next dose.

What Side Effects can Crestor Cause?

The patient may experience side effects such as nausea, fever, muscle pain, joint pain, or chest pain. In severe cases, a person may feel depressed, confused or loss of appetite.


  • Avoid taking aluminum and magnesium antacid while on Rosuvastatin (Crestor). In case you are taking them, keep a gap of two hours after Rosuvastatin.

  • Any history of liver disease must be shared with your doctor

  • Avoid breastfeeding completely while taking Rosuvastatin (Crestor).
