How Should Lipitor be Used?

Lipitor (Atorvastatin ) comes in a tablet form and is taken by mouth daily with or without food. Take the medicine regularly at the same time every day.

What Should I do if I Forget a Dose?

If you forgot a dose, take the missed dose as and when you remember. However, you should not take the missed dose if it is less than 12 hours for your regular dose. Skip the missed dose in this case.

What Side Effects can this medicine Cause?

The side effects of Lipitor (Atorvastatin) include heartburn, nausea, joint and muscle pain, weakness, chest pain, loss of appetite, flu-like symptoms, itching, rash, hives, difficulty in breathing, hoarseness or swelling of face, lips, hands, ankles or feet.


  • Before starting this medicine, it is important that you share your allergies with the doctor. Also, you are taking or plan to take any other prescription or nonprescription medication, do tell your doctor. Share with the doctor if you have any liver disease. It is also important to talk to your doctor about your plans of getting pregnant or if you are breastfeeding. Avoid pregnancy and breastfeeding while on Lipitor.

  • Alcohol should also be avoided and if you take more than two alcoholic beverages in a day, tell your doctor. Any planned surgery, including dental should also be shared.
