Faropenem belongs to bactericidal category and acts by inhibiting cell wall synthesis. It is effective against gram (+ve) & gram (-ve) bacteria. It Preferentially bind to the PBPS 2 & 1A of Escherichia coli.


The recommended dose range is 150mg three times a day, It may increase to 200mg three times a day.

Use to treat infections and Lower respiratory tract infections, ENT infections, and genitourinary infections.


Caution should be exercised in patient of renal impairment and patient with H/O hypersensitivity to penicillin, cephalosporin or penem. patient with family background of atopy Elderly patients.


Possibly unsafe: Evidence from studies in breastfeeding women show that there is a definite risk of side effects to the breastfed infants. However, use of the drug in breastfeeding women is acceptable in spite of the risk to the infants, if the drug is needed in a life-threatening situation or for a serious disease for which safer drugs cannot be used or are ineffective. Patients should follow the advice of the doctor regarding its use.
