Cytosar-U injection

PRESCRIPTION REQUIRED | BRAND NOT AVAILABLE

Alternate Brand Name: Cytosar-U, Tarabine PFS, Cytosar

Cytarabine is a cancer medication that interferes with the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body.

Recommendation:.

The recommended dose of 100 to 200 mg/m2/day or 2 to 6 mg/kg/day as a continuous IV infusion over 24 hours or in divided doses by rapid injection for 5 to 10 days. This course may be repeated approximately every 2 weeks.

Cytarabine is used to treat certain types of leukemia (blood cancers). Cytarabine is also used to treat leukemia associated with meningitis.

Cytarabine will not treat an active meningitis infection that has already developed in the body.

Treating certain types of leukemia in combination with other medicines. It may also be used to prevent meningeal leukemia. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Cytarabine is an antineoplastic. It works by disrupting the growth of cancer cells.

Precautions:

Avoid being near people who are sick or have infections. Tell your doctor at once if you develop signs of infection.

Body fluids should not be handled by a woman who is pregnant or who may become pregnant. Use condoms during sexual activity to avoid exposure to body fluids.

Do not receive a "live" vaccine while using cytarabine. The vaccine may not work as well during this time, and may not fully protect you from disease. Live vaccines include measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), rotavirus, typhoid, yellow fever, varicella (chickenpox), zoster (shingles), and nasal flu (influenza) vaccine.

Breastfeeding:

There are no data on the excretion of cytarabine into human milk. Because many drugs are excreted in human milk and because of the potential for serious adverse reactions due to cytarabine in nursing infants, a decision should be made to discontinue nursing or discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.
