Norphyl injection

Alternate Brand Names: Phyllocontin, Truphylline, Aminophylline

Aminophylline is used to treat the symptoms of asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema.

The recommended dose of 6 mg/kg in 100 to 200 mL of IV fluid intravenously once over 20 to 30 minutes.

Aminophylline is a bronchodilator. Aminophylline works in several ways: it relaxes muscles in your lungs and chest to allow more air in, decreases the sensitivity of your lungs to allergens and other substances that cause inflammation, and increases the contractions of your diaphragm to draw more air into the lungs.

Aminophylline is used to treat the symptoms of asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema.

Treating active symptoms and blockage of airway due to asthma or other lung diseases such as emphysema or bronchitis. It is used in combination with other medicines.

Aminophylline is a xanthine derivative. It works by relaxing the smooth muscle surrounding the bronchial tubes (air passages) of the lungs, allowing the tubes to widen, making breathing easier. Aminophylline improves contraction of the diaphragm (the major breathing muscle).

Avoid eating excessive amounts of grilled or char-broiled foods. Doing so may also change the dosage of aminophylline that you need.

Avoid caffeinated beverages such as coffee, tea, and cola. Aminophylline is related chemically to caffeine, and you may experience some side effects if you consume too much caffeine.

Aminophylline (theophylline) is excreted in human milk and may cause irritability or other signs of mild toxicity. The concentration of theophylline in breast milk is approximately equivalent to the maternal serum concentration. The manufacturer states that serious adverse effects in the infant are unlikely unless the mother has toxic serum theophylline concentrations. The American Academy of Pediatrics considers theophylline to be compatible with breast-feeding.
